Northfield is Wichita’s best-kept secret: a tiny haven of beauty tucked right into the historic Delano district just down the street from Friends University. Here, students get a classical liberal arts education as it was meant to be: inspired by wonder, with a focus on joyful exploration. “Nascantur in admiratione” or "Let them be born in wonder" is the perennial motto.
Northfield Academy is a 6th - 12th grade Liberal Arts School where students participate in a community dedicated to learning from the wisdom of the ancients, engaging in The Great Conversation.
Low-Tech Learning
In order to prioritize interpersonal relationships and ponder great ideas, Northfield Academy has a low-tech policy during school hours. We also honor the history of great thinkers from the past by creating a learning environment freeing ourselves from as many distractions as possible.
Access to Friends University
Our location, just a block from Friends University, means our students have unparalleled access to college classes. Many of our 11th and 12th grade students spend their morning hours taking classes at Friends. It is possible to graduate from Northfield with a full year of college credits!
Deep-dive classes
While math and Latin run all year, we focus on just two "deep-dive" courses each month, allowing class time to be longer and more relaxed. This means students can engage more fully with the material, while reducing their total work load.
